Short Bio

Connie Ryan. born in Ireland, lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Statement

As a teacher and school psychologist, Connie spent much of her life among school children and particularly enjoyed being on the playground during recess. The space would come alive with the movement, energy and vitality of children playing. Now the canvas has become her playground and she uses shapes, lines and textures, to reveal energy and movement. She works by making forms and dissolving them, exploring which ones, whether alike or different, belong in a composition. By playing with materials such as paint, ink, collage and thread, she creates works that reflect on what it means to belong in a place.
